How many times have you turned to music to uplift you even further in happy times, or sought the comfort of music when melancholy strikes?

Music affects us all. But only in recent times have scientists sought to explain and quantify the way music impacts us at an emotional level. Researching the links between melody and the mind indicates that listening to and playing music actually can alter how our brains, and therefore our bodies, function.

It seems that the healing power of music, over body and spirit, is only just starting to be understood, even though music therapy is not new. For many years therapists have been advocating the use of music - both listening and study - for the reduction of anxiety and stress, the relief of pain. And music has also been recommended as an aid for positive change in mood and emotional states.

Michael DeBakey, who in 1966 became the first surgeon to successfully implant an artificial heart, is on record saying: "Creating and performing music promotes self-expression and provides self-gratification while giving pleasure to others. In medicine, increasing published reports demonstrate that music has a healing effect on patients."

Doctors now believe using music therapy in hospitals and nursing homes not only makes people feel better, but also makes them heal faster. And across the nation, medical experts are beginning to apply the new revelations about music's impact on the brain to treating patients.

In one study, researcher Michael Thaut and his team detailed how victims of stroke, cerebral palsy and Parkinson's disease who worked to music took bigger, more balanced strides than those whose therapy had no accompaniment.

Other researchers have found the sound of drums may influence how bodies work. Quoted in a 2001 article in USA Today, Suzanne Hasner, chairwoman of the music therapy department at Berklee College of Music in Boston, says even those with dementia or head injuries retain musical ability.

The article reported results of an experiment in which researchers from the Mind-Body Wellness Center in Meadville, Pa., tracked 111 cancer patients who played drums for 30 minutes a day. They found strengthened immune systems and increased levels of cancer-fighting cells in many of the patients.

"Deep in our long-term memory is this rehearsed music," Hasner says. "It is processed in the emotional part of the brain, the amygdala. Here's where you remember the music played at your wedding, the music of your first love, that first dance. Such things can still be remembered even in people with progressive diseases. It can be a window, a way to reach them..."

The American Music Therapy Organization claims music therapy may allow for "emotional intimacy with families and caregivers, relaxation for the entire family, and meaningful time spent together in a positive, creative way".

Scientists have been making progress in its exploration into why music should have this effect. In 2001 Dr. Anne Blood and Robert Zatorre of McGill University in Montreal, used positron emission tomography, or PET scans, to find out if particular brain structures were stimulated by music.

In their study, Blood and Zatorre asked 10 musicians, five men and five women, to choose stirring music. The subjects were then given PET scans as they listened to four types of audio stimuli - the selected music, other music, general noise or silence. Each sequence was repeated three times in random order.

Blood said when the subjects heard the music that gave them "chills," the PET scans detected activity in the portions of the brain that are also stimulated by food and sex.

Just why humans developed such a biologically based appreciation of music is still not clear. The appreciation of food and the drive for sex evolved to help the survival of the species, but "music did not develop strictly for survival purposes," Blood told Associated Press at the time.

She also believes that because music activates the parts of the brain that make us happy, this suggests it can benefit our physical and mental well being.

This is good news for patients undergoing surgical operations who experience anxiety in anticipation of those procedures.

Polish researcher, Zbigniew Kucharski, at the Medical Academy of Warsaw, studied the effect of acoustic therapy for fear management in dental patients. During the period from October 2001 to May 2002, 38 dental patients aged between 16 and 60 years were observed. The patients received variations of acoustic therapy, a practice where music is received via headphones and also vibrators.

Dr Kucharski discovered the negative feelings decreased five-fold for patients who received 30 minutes of acoustic therapy both before and after their dental procedure. For the group that heard and felt music only prior to the operation, the fearful feelings reduced by a factor of 1.6 only.

For the last group (the control), which received acoustic therapy only during the operation, there was no change in the degree of fear felt.

A 1992 study identified music listening and relaxation instruction as an effective way to reduce pain and anxiety in women undergoing painful gynecological procedures. And other studies have proved music can reduce other 'negative' human emotions like fear, distress and depression.

Sheri Robb and a team of researchers published a report in the Journal of Music Therapy in 1992, outlining their findings that music assisted relaxation procedures (music listening, deep breathing and other exercises) effectively reduced anxiety in pediatric surgical patients on a burn unit.

"Music," says Esther Mok in the AORN Journal in February 2003, "is an easily administered, non-threatening, non-invasive, and inexpensive tool to calm preoperative anxiety."

So far, according to the same report, researchers cannot be certain why music has a calming affect on many medical patients. One school of thought believes music may reduce stress because it can help patients to relax and also lower blood pressure. Another researcher claims music allows the body's vibrations to synchronize with the rhythms of those around it. For instance, if an anxious patient with a racing heartbeat listens to slow music, his heart rate will slow down and synchronize with the music's rhythm.

Such results are still something of a mystery. The incredible ability that music has to affect and manipulate emotions and the brain is undeniable, and yet still largely inexplicable.

Aside from brain activity, the affect of music on hormone levels in the human body can also be quantified, and there is definite evidence that music can lower levels of cortisol in the body (associated with arousal and stress), and raise levels of melatonin (which can induce sleep). It can also precipitate the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkiller.

But how does music succeed in prompting emotions within us? And why are these emotions often so powerful? The simple answer is that no one knows... yet. So far we can quantify some of the emotional responses caused by music, but we cannot yet explain them. But that's OK. I don't have to understand electricity to benefit from light when I switch on a lamp when I come into a room, and I don't have to understand why music can make me feel better emotionally. It just does - our Creator made us that way.

Here it says that we should offer the sacrifice of praise which is the fruit of our lips. Here is the exact verse from the NIV Bible: Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Hebrews 13:15

This Bible verse admonishes us to offer the praise continually and also tells us that it is a sacrifice that is offered up to God. Christian Praise is not something that comes easily for any of us. When we think about our life circumstances, many times we can feel quite negatively about them and even speak negatively about them. The secret to learning to praise God is to take our focus off of our feelings and speech and turn to look at what God has done in our lives. When we change our focus from the negative things in our lives to the positive things that God has done for us we will be better able to offer praise to Him.

There is an old Christian Hymn that says "Count your Blessings, Name them One by One". It is only as we take our eyes off of our circumstances and our negative view of what is going on in our lives and actually look and see where God is working in our lives that we will find the ability to Praise God. So Praise can be defined as acknowledging God at work in our lives.

In Christian Praise we focus on What God Has Done for us. In Christian Worship we focus on Who God IS.

First, let's talk about accepting change. There are some things in life we have limited control over, such as relationships, decision-making, and the directions we choose to go in. You have no control over hurricanes, earthquakes, or tornados. Life and death situations will throw us "off the track" too.

Now - we realize that we have some control over most situations, but what about changing jobs, technology, or an economy? In each of these cases, you also have limited control, but you have more control by adapting.

For example: Computer and Internet technology now change on an almost daily basis. We have the option to refuse to advance ourselves, and our businesses. However, that will only please your competition, beyond their expectations. How many businesses have you seen close because they didn't adapt to the "rising tide" of change?

Darwin's theory of evolution applies to business at "light speed." Companies and families have to be willing to adapt to economic changes and be ready to "turn on a dime." Change seems to be the only permanent thing on earth.

So, the only option we have is to adapt by moving forward. You can learn, enlist help, or develop strategic partnerships. It is up to you, but adapting doesn't have to cost "an arm and a leg." The first ingredient is the motivation to adapt. After that, "weigh up" your affordable options and proceed with caution.

It important to take only calculated risks in the present economic climate. Why "lose your shirt," if you don't have to? Devote time to research, and do your homework before making a sudden change.

You should always know that you would encounter difficulties on the path to success. You can't allow yourself time to be discouraged from taking action. There is always someone who will discourage you from taking a chance, but most of them are not successful. Beware of believing too much negative rhetoric.

Most of the free and unsolicited advice I receive comes from people who tell me how to run my business, but they don't have one. Some of them don't own a home either. What do I do? Listen, evaluate, and decide whether any action is warranted.

Why do I bother to listen? Free advice is worth listening to, but you don't have to act on it. You might learn something from a different point of view, and I am an eternal optimist. When you consider what you pay for an education, you may want to reconsider the value of free advice.

3. If the site feels like it was just "thrown together" chances are...it was. Many sites exist on the internet for the sole purpose of making people think they can get free ipod downlaods however, very few actually deliver what they promise.

From the time I took my ipod out of the package I have been trying to find the best place to load my ipod with the most music and videos that I could. I did find a couple of really good sources that actually delivered what they promised. Unfortunately, along the way i did get a couple of virii and a ton of spyware. Man came from the ground, and from the ground would come the food that he would eat. It was the ground that Cain was so taken with and so proud of. He was insistent upon being recognized for his husbandry. The ground was already cursed for Adam's sake and because of Adam's sin. Now, because of Cain's sin against the human race, against God, and against the ground, the ground would no longer yield to him. He lost his beloved vocation and was cursed to become a wanderer. It was a situation where the race had not had time to harden and where there was no peer group for Cain to run to and find consolation. One might have thought that Cain would have come clean, but he did not. Cain was not repentant. He complained to God: "This is too much--I don't deserve this. It is unreasonable!" That is what Cain was saying. It was no humble admission that this judgment was indeed heavy but he had deserved it. Cain was being defiant. "This is greater than I can bear. I cannot stand this. What are you trying to do to me? First you reject me and now you are disowning me and taking away my means of a living." The truth is that God was very gracious here. He could have slain Cain, even as He did the sons of Judah, Achan, Agag, and others. Cain had killed his brother for no reason. Abel was one of God's dearest servants in the history of the world. Yet God did not require Cain's life on the spot. He drove him out and Cain complained. "I am a fugitive and a vagabond. Anyone who finds me will kill me."

God's judgment was very generous. He could have reacted: "So what if the people that find you kill you? What do you think you deserve?" But God deals in mercy and grace, even with men like Cain. He extended his life, gave him the opportunity to think it over, and to repent. There is no indication that Cain ever did that but one thing is certain--he could have. Solomon said that a live dog is better off than a dead lion because as long as a man is alive, there is hope.

Everyone, Finding Me, Will Kill Me

Cain was worried, now that he was a murderer and an alien from his family and from God, that he would be a marked and a hunted man. Who was Cain worried about? Well, remember that there were a whole lot of people in the world before Adam died at the age of 930 years and they were all closely related to Abel. They would despise Cain for what He did to Abel. Cain did well to be worried about being chased down and killed.

God again was gracious and put a mark on Cain. What was that mark? There is an old view that He turned him black. Is that right? No, of course it is not true! That is as ridiculous a claim as has ever come from those who call themselves Christians. What is supposed to have happened to Cain's black race when Noah, who was a descendent of Seth, was the only one that was left on the ark?

So, What Was It?

What was the mark? I do not know what it was and I aspire to say that no one knows. The Bible does not say and it does not give any hint. Preoccupation with the question is diversionary from the reason for the information about the mark. The point is that the mercy of God is protecting Cain against being the object of every vengeful brother and nephew who would come along in the next eight hundred years of the life of Adam and Eve, hear this infuriating story, and go looking for Cain to avenge Abel. Cain could be found in the land of Nod because he was found by the sister who would become his wife. It would certainly not be hard for God to devise a sign or an appearance that would keep away those who would kill him. It might have been nearly anything from cherubim with a flaming sword, to a fierce appearance, to a loathsome disease. But it would be impossible for me to guess, and so I leave it there.

Developing true faith may seem pretty hard to most people. One of the hardest problems with developing faith is the fact that it is an every day thing that we must always be conscious of and focus on because if we do not, we can easily be lead astray. The devil is a liar and he will do everything in his power to make you lose faith in what the word says and what is rightfully yours by the blood of Jesus. Let me give you an example - let's say you started getting my little emails about developing your faith. So, you decide that you are going to put this stuff that I'm talking about, to practice in your life, to help develop your faith.

Basically, there are three areas in which people are most concerned about in their life. The three are their health, their wealth and their relationships. So, for this example, let's say that your concern is relationships. Let's say you are in a relationship with a guy (OK fellows, bare with me), and he's acting like a knuckle head. Don't get me wrong, you love him, but he's not doing the things that you desire for him to do. So you complain, moan and whine to your mate but nothing changes. The only thing you manage to get him to do is to argue. And that's not what you want.

Finally, you say, OK, I'm going to listen to this mess that Dawn's been talking about. I'm going to try and put some of these things into practice.

So, you make a list of the things that you want your mate to do. Then, you go to the bible and find confirmation that you already have those things. One of the verses you find is "whatever you ask for in prayer and believe shall be given unto you." Ok. Cool. The next thing to do is to start confessing the word.

I'm no psychic, but I bet you I can tell you what is going to happen next. Your mate is going to act 10 times worse than he ever did. Yes, he will. You want to know why? Because you are trying to develop your faith and the devil can't allow that. His job is to stop you from developing your faith so he will do everything in his power to stop you from believing the word.

All of a sudden, your mate will do something that really angers you. And then you will receive the thought that goes something like this, "That darn Dawn Fields. She doesn't know what she's talking about. She's trying to get me to believe this silly stuff. This stuff don't work cause how come now, as soon as I start putting this stuff into practice, everything is 10 times worse."

That's because the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. He doesn't want you to have your victory. He won't allow it. Don't get mad at him. That's his job. Can't be angry at a person cause they are doing their job and doing it well. He comes to you in your thoughts. He gets you to think that what you are having faith in, what you are believing, WON'T HAPPEN. Are you crazy?

It is YOUR job to keep the faith. Don't allow the devil to still your joy.

In Matthew 13, Jesus tells a parable about the sower of the seed. Then, in Matthew 13: 18 he says, "Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. What He means here is for example, those of you who read this faith series and don't understand what is being taught, the devil will come right away and plant the seed that this stuff is ridiculous--don't even waste your time.

20The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.

So many of us fall into this category. We head the word, receive it with joy and is happy about it. But because we don't allow it enough time to plant roots, get so deep into us that we make it a part of our every day life, the minute something happens, we give up. That's like the example I just gave to you about the mate. If you try this and as soon as you do, your mate acts 10 times worse, the devil starts bombarding you with thoughts about how dumb this stuff is--see it don't work. You give up too quickly before any roots are established or changed in your natural thinking.

22The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.

This is the person who hears it but instead of having faith in the word, worries about this or about that and never allows his faith to develop at all.

23But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."

Now, this is where we want to be. The one who hears the word, believes it, and NO MATTER WHAT confesses the word UNTIL IT"S MANIFESTATION.

See, the devil is going to come. Oh, yes. But your job is to ONLY FOCUS ON WHAT YOU WANT AND NOT ON WHAT YOU DON'T WANT. Focus on the word and what it says, REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES MAY BE SCREAMING AT YOU. Cause your circumstances is the devils way of pulling you away from the word.

All you have to do is keep developing that FAITH and believing in the word--THROUGH your CIRCUMSTANCES. And you will have all that you desire.

"It was a dark and stormy night."

The "weather report" gambit. Not only is it a lazy way to start a story, but this one was voted "Worst story opportunity of all time."

"I hadn't seen her in the bar before. She was pale, but interesting."

The "Vampire pick-up gambit" Or maybe they're a werewolf, or alien, or serial killer. Or maybe the narrator isn't what he or she seems. Either way, the story turns out the same, and the editor will have given up long before he got to the end.

"The man with the piercing eyes and pointed beard asked 'What you would give to have your heart's desire?"

The old "Pact with the Devil" gambit. Only try this if you assuredly have sold your soul for fame and fortune - all other permutations have been played out years ago.

"I understanding he was supposed to be in Vegas, so I was surprised to see ........."

Almost as old as pact with the Devil stories is the "I talked to a ghost" gambit. Cavemen probably told this story to each other around their campfires. And you think an editor hasn't heard it?

"I woke up in the dark, and all I could feel above me was velvet, and below that, wood."

The "buried alive" gambit. Those cavemen probably knew this one as well. A variation is the "Sixth Sense" gambit where the narrator is already dead. Do you think the editor didn't see the film?

"They gave me a assuredly good going over, and I vowed there and then to have my revenge."

The "Clint Eastwood" gambit. Generally a sign that you're going to be explicitly violent. Even if the editor wants that kind of stuff, they'll want a good plot than this.

Reflections on a Difficult Gospel Passage - The Unjust Steward

The parable of the unjust steward as recorded in Luke 16: 1-8.

Jesus told his disciples: "There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. So he called him in and asked him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.'

"The manager said to himself, 'What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I'm not strong enough to dig, and I'm ashamed to beg-- I know what I'll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.'

So he called in each one of his master's debtors. He asked the first, 'How much do you owe my master?'

" 'Eight hundred gallons of olive oil,' he replied.

"The manager told him, 'Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred.'

"Then he asked the second, 'And how much do you owe?'

"'A thousand bushels of wheat,' he replied.

"He told him, 'Take your bill and make it eight hundred.'

"The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.

It is immediately clear that in this parable, Jesus is not extolling the dishonesty of the unjust steward. Jesus wanted to teach His audience an important truth and the scope of this illustration seems to be focused on encouraging expedient forethought. The element in the action of the steward which precipitated the master's strong recommendation was of forethought, foresight, and the keen awareness of the need to plan so that when the need arose (which the steward apparently saw rapidly approaching), he would be accepted into the homes of his master's debtors.

It would appear that the message our Lord wanted to convey was concerning the Kingdom of God. He was trying to inculcate in the listeners an awareness of the imminence of the Kingdom and the necessity for them to keep their eyes open and be alert and prepared for the ushering in of the new government.

Dwight Beck, states that the main idea of this passage is that "men should utilize forethought for their spiritual and eternal welfare with as much ingenuity and preparedness as keen witted men plan their future with material things." John McKenzie makes an interesting observation when he adds that the contrast between dishonesty and foresight point to the fact that Jesus wanted us to ponder the idea that the honest sometimes fail in that virtue which the dishonest manifest.

Dishonesty requires a certain degree of shrewdness and it is this ability to be cleverly astute that we are urged to use in preparing for the great day of the Lord. Dishonest behavior is nowhere praised in this parable.

NOTE:

This is 1 of 10 difficult passages found in the New Testament Gospels which I will be reflecting on. I will share my interpretative understanding as well as the respected works of others as delineated below.

In the final analysis however, the whole of God's word speak and you will discover, as I have, that when I have an ear to hear, obscure Biblical verses are not troubling and does not deafen me to the voice of God almighty.

Your agent makes money by having many clients and making a little money from a lot of people. You make money only if you make money. This does not make your agent an evil person, but you need to be aware of this so that you put everything into perspective.

In essence, it's your movie, music and TV agent's job to get you that meeting or audition. It's your job to close the deal. Once the deal is closed, your agent will negotiate the major deal points and your lawyer with finagle the finer points.

I once heard the definition of a bad day. You know you're having a bad day if you're following a motorcycle gang of Hells Angels and your car horn gets stuck.

You know you're having a bad day if you wake up and your waterbed has sprung a leak, except you don't own a waterbed. You know you're having a bad day when. You fill in the blanks.

So you say you're having a bad day, eh? You flip on the radio and even though you're a conservative, those right wing talk show hosts are giving you a headache.

You punch the FM button and start scanning the dial for something interesting. Next thing you know, you're singing at the top of your lungs with the Doobie Brothers, Listen to the Music.

Of course, at this point your windows are rolled up and people are staring at you at the stoplight. But heh, who cares. You just had an attitude transplant.

Theres a lot to be said for the power of music. I happen to like all styles of music, classical, jazz, gospel, rock, folk, country, even bluegrass. There's even a little Rap that I can slightly tolerate.

In fact, my love of music and my childhood dream of being a famous radio disk jockey came into reality several years ago when I got to get paid for having fun doing a morning drive show in Kansas City.

In my fifteen minutes of fame, I had the privilege of playing the most popular music of that day over the airwaves and interview some people a lot more famous than me.

My latest hobby is collecting music concert DVD's. So when I heard that a local music store was going out of business, I rushed over to see what kind of deals I could get to add to my collection. Well, it just so happened that they had the vintage Lynyrd Skynyrd documentary, Freebird. So guess what I did? I bought it!

And also a fantastic concert by the original members of Fleetwood Mac. The encore numbers performed by Lindsay Buckingham, Stevie Nix, John and Christie McVie and Mick Fleetwood not only made me smile but made me want to get up and dance. And if you'd ever seen my dancing, it's not a pretty sight. I'm a bad version of Steve Martin's Happy Feet.

The band surprised the audience with a drum pounding rendition of Tusk, that included the entire University of Southern California marching band in full parade dress. That made me smile real big. It's downright inspirational.

If that weren't enough, they performed their hit song, Don't Stop. It talks about jettisoning the past and moving on with hope and optimism. A very rousing anthem that reverberates with, don't stop thinking about tomorrow, don't stop, it will soon be here. It'll be here, better than before, yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone.

Perhaps the most famous rendition of this song was when Fleetwood Mac sang at the first William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Inaugural. Regardless of your political affiliation, you have to admit it was pretty cool. Okay, don't admit it. What do I care?

Maybe you're not a big music fan like I am, but can you imagine a world without music? Every TV show has its theme music. The Superbowl commercials often feature famous oldies and even CSI plays a tune by The Who.

Music is woven into the very fabric of our society. Even sacred music ain't so sacred if you study it. Another contemporary of Ben Franklin, Englishman Charles Wesley wrote a couple hundred religious songs that are still sung today. Guess what? Most people are unaware that these holy songs were sung to the tunes of popular bar songs of the 18th century. Surprise.

You may recall Charles older brother John Wesley had no small hand in starting the Methodist Church following the great Wesleyan Revival of the 18th century.

How is it that we humans have this inner compass that is drawn like a magnet to the North Pole called music?

The 1960's were full of folk songs whose lyrics shaped political opinions. Lyricists have forever captured the climate of the current culture and phrased songs in a way that touched us and moved us deeply.

So my anthem for today would be this: Let the music in. Maybe for you it's been a long time since you let anything in to touch you in the deepest part of your soul. Maybe it's time for you to turn a corner in your life.

Maybe it's your time to take the strong suggestion of Fleetwood Mac, don't stop thinking about tomorrow, yesterday's gone. Your future will always be brighter if you let the music in.

While there are tons of cheap crap vampire movies out there, there are is also a wide array of great movies that, best of all, vary in style from one film to another. The court found in her favor, and every negative of this film was supposed to have been destroyed, but pirate copies kept cropping up all over the place. Once the copyright to Dracula wore off (copyrights last 70 years after the author's death), the movie was re-released in Dvd format and is now available on Dvd. Whether this movie hits you as very creepy or hilarious, it's worth seeing.

John Carpenter's Vampires (1998)

John Carpenter's Vampires is one of the great modern vampire movies that unquestionably takes the attempt to be a vampire movie, and not an performance film disguised as a vampire movie. James Woods plays the role of the main protagonist, a vampire hunter who is obsessed with wiping the mall out with his team after he witnessed his parents murdered by the blood sucking undead when he as a child.

This is a beloved among many vampire movie fans, and will roughly all the time pop up on a top ten list of vampire films. This Joel Schumacher film is also pop culture notable because it featured the two Coreys at the height of their immature heart throb popularity in the late eighties.

Don't let this scare you away, this is a good movie, and it is a very traditional story in a modern setting, mixing the two well without bastardizing either. A singular mother and her two sons move to a small coastal California town. There are some mysterious deaths, as well as a pesky motorcycle gang. The younger brother makes friends with imaginative boys who claim to be vampire hunters. Interview with a Vampire is based on the best selling novel by Anne Rice. This novel, and the movie that follows it rather closely. This is what you would consider the "high end" or "high art" type of vampire movie. Literary, and based on story and theme rather than general genre considerations.

Interview with a Vampire is about a plantation owner named Louis who lost his brother and his will to live, but Lestat likes the man and offers him the chance to become a vampire. Louis accepts, but finds that he hates being a vampire and he refuses to take human life. The two of them end up turning a tiny girl into one of them, and she becomes the surmise for Louis to continue to live, as the two live together as house through the centuries that ensue the 1700s.

The interview comes as a young journalist finds a man who tells him he is a vampire who is over 200 years old, and he tells his story. The movie is like the novel, following the religious doctrine and reflections of this vampire who refuses to take human life. This is a very different, turn of pace film that will find its fans, and was critically acclaimed for good reason.

Dracula (1958)

The 1958 version of the film Dracula was ground breaking in many ways, and is the first of eight movies in the "Hammer" series. Christopher Lee plays Dracula in nearly all of these films, and the "Hammer Series" of Dracula films remain classics among vampire fans. In this first film, the protagonist, Jonathan Harker, attacks Dracula at his castle (apparently somewhere in Germany). He fails, and Dracula travels to a nearby city, where he preys on the house of Harker's fiancée. The only one who may be able to safe them is Dr. Van Helsing, Harker's friend and fellow vampire hunter.

This movie was directed by Terence Fisher, and it is a British film that was released n the United States as "Horror of Dracula." While fairly tame by today's standard, this film was ground breaking for its combination of romance/sexuality, and what was an unprecedented estimate of gore.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

This film reintroduced Dracula to a modern Hollywood audience, and is one of the first vampire films to have a huge Hollywood budget. With an amazing cast of actors and a great director (Francis Ford Coppola), this film won a large estimate of awards, especially for technical achievements. This is a visually remarkable movie, and even Keanu Reeves' iffy acting can't bring down the uncut film.

This version of Dracula is closely based (for a Hollywood film) on Bram Stoker's superior novel of the same name. A young lawyer (Jonathan Harker) is assigned to a gloomy settlement in the mists of Eastern Europe. He is captured and imprisoned by the undead vampire Dracula, who travels to London, inspired by a picture of Harker's betrothed, Mina Murray. In Britain, Dracula begins a reign of seduction and terror, draining the life from Mina's closest friend, Lucy Westenra. Lucy's friends accumulate together to try to drive Dracula away, and a final confrontation is inevitable.

This was the ninth top grossing film worldwide in 1992, production over 5 million dollars, and it was not just a U.S. Success, but worldwide. This is one of the best vampire movies ever made,

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

Robert Rodriguez directs this vampire movie, which was co-written by Quentin Tarantino. This is celebrating one of the best "pulp" vampire movies, complete with sexy half naked women undead, a modern situation, a "nest" and a mass feeding, with the innocent heroine who you know will somehow make it through, but only after kicking vampire butt!

Seth Gecko and his brother Richard are in hiding after a bloody bank robbery in Texas. They escape across the border into Mexico and will be home-free the next morning, when they pay off the local kingpin. They just have to survive 'from dusk till dawn' at the rendezvous point, which turns out to be a strip joint that, unbeknownst to them, is also an active vampire nest.

The Gecko brothers are fugitives, and are on the run after a very curious bank robbery. They kidnap the Fuller family, and drive to a Mexican bar to meet with other on-the-run criminals. The two fugitive brothers at gunpoint get an ex-minister and his two children to take them across the border into Mexico. They drive to a Mexican biker bar to meet with the other crooks, but the vampires go nuts, and the survivors must fight their way out to morning. This is the epitome of a pulp vampire film.

Blade (1998)

Blade is the first transition of a comic/graphic novel into an performance based series. This is as much an performance film as a vampire film, and shows where the next evolution of the modern vampire film may be going, as the later film Underworld proves that the trend is likely to continue.

The movie begins with a pregnant woman being admitted to a hospital, bleeding from the neck. Paramedics think she was attacked by some type of animal. This is the birth of Blade, played by Wesley Snipes, who is half vampire and half human, so he can walk during the day, and hunts vampires.

Blade works with his mentor, Whistler, to hunt vampires. With the help of a young woman, bitten, who Blade saves from a vampire attack, Blade is forced to fight a vampire Deacon Frost, who is attempting to unlock an aged ceremony in order to turn from a vampire into La Magra, the Blood God.

Blade fights La Magra, and the battle takes place to see Whether the day walking vampire can defeat the blood god or not. This is a great performance flick, and there are abundance of very good vampire scenes throughout the film. The sucess of the first led to two sequels.

Underworld (2003)

This movie embraces the idea of the Vampire-Werewolf rivalry, and in this film this rivalry is an all out war, with the werewolves looking new weapons to assault the vampires, and the vampires realizing they need to catch up. This war is brought into the modern day, and this is once again a comic book based movie that is as much performance movie as it is a vampire and werewolf movie.

The vampire Selene, who is also one of the top werewolf (called Lycans in the film) hunters, finds out about a terrible inexpressive inexpressive from most of the vampires by the elders, and after looking a legend about a human who can somehow be both werewolf and vampire, production it a nearly unstoppable power, she must conclude where her loyalties unquestionably lie and what this means for the war and her people.

This film has a very modern dark and gothic feel to it, with every singular scene taking place at night. This record will take novice Warhammer gamers through the basics of collecting, construction and painting a Vampire counts army. Raising an army of the dead couldn't be easier...

Starting a new army in Warhammer can seem a bit daunting even for experienced players and for new comers it can be wholly baffling. But have no fear, this guide is packed full of helpful tips to guide you on the first steps toward construction a Vampire Counts army that will be ready to take on all comers. We'll cover how to assemble your models and then give them a easy but visually pleasing paint job using a small number of dissimilar paints.

This guide assumes that you have the following modeling equipment; plastic cutters, a craft knife, plastic glue & paints.

When construction any Warhammer army, the best place to begin is the Army book for the singular army. Games Workshop skeleton models come in the form of a plastic kit and with all plastic models the first thing you have to do is cut them from the frames that they come supplied on. To do this use your plastic cutters and when cutting try not to cut too close to the model parts themselves as this may damage the model, leave a small (less than 1mm) stub attached to the model and use your craft knife to trim this off. Remember; when using a craft knife you should all the time cut away from yourself.

Once you have your skeleton parts free of their frames you just need to clean up any mold lines or remaining frame stubs (as mentioned above). Cutting off frame stubs is just a matter of slicing them off (once again cutting away from you), you can also use your craft knife to scrape off mold lines by retention the blade over a mold line and dragging the blade along it.

Your models are now ready for assembly, this is where the plastic glue comes in, a easy infantry trooper like a skeleton is pretty easy to assemble and I'll not go into how to do this in any length, I recommend finding in the army book for inspiration on poses.

Once your models have been built they are ready for painting, the technique below will result in a paint job convenient for gaming.

Step 1: First you should undercoat you skeleton model white, this creates a good face on which to apply the rest of paint job.

Step 2: Once this is done apply watered-down brown paint to all the exposed bone or wood areas. Be specific to get the brown paint mix in all the cracks as this layer forms the foundation for all the following steps.

Step 3: "Wet" drybrush all the bone areas light brown with an old brush. Drybrushing is a technique where you load your brush with a small number of paint (so that it is approximately dry) and brush it over the raised surfaces of a model, leaving the recesses unpainted. A "wet" drybrush requires more paint to be used and will consequentially colour more of the model .

Step 4: With a general brush, paint the axe cope dark brown. Paint the area that need to look metallic black.

Step 5: We will now add someone else drybrush layer, this layer needs to be much "dryer" than the last, but is still not a true drybrush. Apply a 1:1 mix of light brown and cream with this technique in mind. Now, drybrush the axe cope with light brown. Be sure to leave some of the darker brown showing near the hand and the axe head.

Step 6: Paint the metallic areas silver; you can also paint the trim on the metallic areas gold.

Step 7: The first true drybrush now needs to be applied to the bone areas, this dry brush should be a mix of 3:1 cream to light brown. You should brush in a downward appeal only at first, to catch the ribs, knee caps, and joints. Next, paint sideways over the major leg and arm bones to get best coverage in these areas. Drybrush the axe cope lightly with a mix of 9:1 light brown and white.

Step 8: Apply a black wash over the silver areas and brown wash over the gold trim. A wash is a technique where watered down paint is used to paint (usually darken) recesses, paint should be watered down with at least 3 parts water to 1 part paint.

Step 9: Now, do a final cream drybrush, production sure to brush downwards only. Drybrush a 1:1 mix of light brown and white onto the axe handle. Drybrush silver onto the metal areas (make sure the washes have dried first). Re-apply gold paint to the gold areas, leaving the wash near the rivets.

Step 10: thought about apply a 1:1 wash of brown paint and water colse to the knee caps, over the toe and knuckle joints, under the shoulder blades, between legs bones, and into the eye sockets. I have lived for a very long time. Immortality is not always forever, but for me it has lasted for many centuries.

During this time I have acquainted myself with the kind of loneliness that a mortal could never understand. I have seen years pass by in the way that others measure days... hours... I am alone, not only as a person, but as an entire society. The world I came from is long gone. Every world I have ever known is gone.

I also know that what I was feeling was love. I know it because the next night, I told her what I was. I had never done that before, spoken the truth to a human. If it had been lust or infatuation I would have seen her a few more times and then would have disappeared into the night. But I told this one.

She didn't believe me of course. But I had proof. It didn't take long before she was running, screaming.

I followed her. I followed her always. I waited in the shadows watching her, even as she married, even as she started a family. I'd like to think that a part of her knew I was there, that maybe a part of her was fond of her pale shadow.

The greatest sign of my love is that I never turned her. Even at the end, as she lay there prone, helpless, passing beyond. I knew she would not want this. By then I knew her well. I understood her soul. She would have rather died.

And so she did, and I was left alone again, to wander the world in eternal, immortal loneliness.

There are many different geographical locations for churches. Some are city churches, some are countryside churches and there are also mega churches and community churches. My focus is on community churches and how they have a responsibility to the community that they are located in. That church in the community is a change agent where it is. It is an intervention in terms of how that community would have progresses had it not been for the planting of that assembly.

I divulge ten learnings that I have gleaned from being a member of a community church.

1. A community church that is serious about its assignment in the community, realizes the weight its responsibility in the transformation of that community.

2. The church cannot begin to affect the community without addressing the fundamental, foundational issues of spiritual strongholds that have bedeviled that community since its inception.

3. It takes visionary apostolic leadership with a strong prophetic anointing to tackle territorial issues in that community

4. Extraordinary transformation will require extraordinary sacrifice and discipline to pray and fast first and being led by the Holy Spirit begin to implement His programmes.

5. A community cannot be transformed by someone who does not know how to interpret the times and seasons. It takes a special grace of God to be able to effectively preach the gospel of the kingdom to the poor.

6. The leadership must be willing to lay aside their comforts, seek the face of the Lord relentlessly and passionately execute their duties in that community.

7. The church must address the principalities that control the municipalities they function in. Without this the demonic powers will continue to run the show with you thinking you are in charge.They must submit to you authority. The prophet Ezekiel did not go into the valley of the dry bones negotiating with the spirit if death that had control over that place. He went in as a man of God with higher rank and took control of the situation to bring life.

Not One Jot Or Tittle Will Pass Away From the Law Till All Is Fulfilled - Matthew 5:17-18

There is a great heresy/delusion that exists in the modern church of today. People say we are not under the Law of the Old Testament as we are in the New Covenant of Grace, and then they say we do not have to obey the commands of Jesus, as that would make us a person that is trying to win their faith by works and not by faith. This is not as it should be!

Matthew 5:17-18 (New King James Version)

17 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

It is amazing how many times people preach that we are not under the Law anymore but we are under Grace. So if that is true, it is okay not to honor your parents and it's okay to steal, it's okay to lie, it is okay to buy as much as you can to be as good as your neighbor, you can even sleep with your neighbors wife then divorce your own wife and marry her.

It's quite sickening to see. The church will take all the worship music from David's psalms and many of the promises all through the Old Testament and claim them for their own life on one hand, but they will say that the judgments of the Old Testament in the prophets will not apply to the last days church and that we are still not under the Law.

Then when Jesus came and added to the Law, and revised the Law in the New Testament, and gave 50 commandments of what we should do and not do as a true follower of his, this is said not to be necessary as many of these things he said are said to be impossible to do. If you say to a Christian that he has to obey Jesus' commands as he is your Master they will accuse you of trying to be saved by works.

Jesus said this about his commands and who you are to him if you obey or don't obey what he taught in the Gospel:

23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's who sent Me.

Yes Jesus died that we can be saved an indwelt by the Holy Spirit, yet we are still called to be holy. Please do not be fooled that you need not obey Jesus to call him Lord. People like to call Jesus their friend, but you are only a friend of Jesus when you are obeying him.

If Jesus said not one part of the law will pass away till all the prophets prophecies are fulfilled and heaven and earth have no sin and tears then the Law will remain in his commandments.

Society has, as a whole, taken a very marked interest in what's different, weird, sickening, etc... There are whole blogs, forums and more dedicated to this. Millions of people are logging on and reading this somewhat questionable content. Web publishers and advertisers are catching on and using pay per click and other avenues of advertising to target keywords for popular stories like horse sex and such. It is well known that advertisers want marked results and news stories and websites are now being tracked for what is popular and what isn't. All of these sensational and horrible stories of evil and outrage have commanded more attention than all the wars in history. This is why shows like MTV's Jackass become huge hits and Johnie Knoxville a star big enough to play one of the Duke brothers and rumored to have been intimate with Jessica Simpson.

Society is obsessed or addicted to anything out of the norm. The more outrageous the better the ratings. Biblically speaking it sounds like we are following in the footsteps of Sodom and Gomorrah. Do you remember this story? Each of these cities had become so enthralled with wickedness that God destroyed them.

"Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah --from the LORD out of the heavens. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities --and also the vegetation in the land." Genesis 19:24, 25 NIV

You could dismiss this as a biblical fairytale until recently as archeologists have now found the ruined cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. And yes they were covered with ash and sulfur balls. As more and more of the bible is proven true, maybe we need to pay more attention to the recent signs that the end times mentioned in Revelations could happen in our lifetimes. We could become the next Sodom and Gomorrah if we keep lusting for the sick, perverse, deranged, etc...

Fashion in the 1950's

The 1950's spawned a wide variety of original and distinctive styles, presented with a classic new age twist. For America, recently recovering from catastrophic tragedies related to the second World War, the 1950's brought restored hope; a chance for a new way of life whose destiny would be decided by them alone. This metamorphosis of America was heavily represented by fashion.

Women especially dramatically altered the way they dressed and presented themselves; during the evolution of an increasingly liberated society, women began to favor casual, relaxed clothing over traditional dress rules and associated formality of previous decades. Some of the most admired new trends for women in the 1950's included button-up sweaters with simple necklines, fitted blouses, and full knee-length skirts. However, the most prevalent fashion for women during this time was dresses. Most dresses were worn casually, and were accentuated with circle skirts, halter straps, or small collars. Evening wear dresses seemed soft yet daring, coming in many pastel hues and accompanied with bold ruffles, tulle trim, and dazzling velvet bows. The fitted evening wear of this period, which was usually sleeveless or strapless, was also emphasized with sheer silk.

Growing increasingly popular, the full skirts of the 1950's needed some sort of support in order to maximize their look. To address this problem, Nylon petticoats were created exclusively to be worn in conjunction with full skirts to create fullness. Nylon was a favorable material because of its high quality and easy care wash. This fullness it created transformed the skirt who gave nothing more than a gentle swish, into a glamorous royal-like flutter. Another significant fashion of this period is the swing coat, developed in the last 1940's by Jacques Fath. The silhouette of the swing coat was "designed perfectly to cover full skirts, and also ideal for the post war high pregnancy rate". Another trend in the 1950's was the "trapeze dress: a swinging dress almost triangular in shape and designed to be worn with low shoes and bouffant hairstyles." The trapeze dress was later modified into a shorter baby doll tent style dress, which was popular in the next decade. Perhaps one of the most classic fashion garments from the 1950's was Christian Dior's H-line of 1954, which consisted of a slender tunic-style suit with a slim skirt. His other popular fashions during this period were his A and Y lines. Dior has long been a dominant force in the fashion world, especially in the 1950's. His creative and usually voluminous garments gave women a more feminine touch. Another designer, Hubert Givenchy created a Parisian style dress in 1957 which he called the Sack. The Sack began the trend of straighter-waist dresses. Initially, it developed into the "fitted darted sheath dress and later into the loose straight short shift dress."

Coco Chanel was another major fashion designer in the 1950's. In contrast to popular full and flouncy skirts, Chanel began creating the boxy, now classic Chanel suit jackets and skirts in trimmed and textured tweed. The materials Chanel chose were always richly textured, which contributed to the finished product's high prices. Chanel's silhouette of her suits was completely straight, divinely lined with silk. Her look was classic, refined, and adorned with details. Chanel also accessorized many of her designs with strings of pearls and collarless jackets, both of which were considered fashionable in the 1950's. One of the most classic trends from the 1950's is the empire line, which was introduced in the late 1950's. This style was applied to dresses and shirts mostly, and was adored by teenagers who looked innocently childlike, hence the coined phrase "baby doll style". During the 1950's, all teenagers were expected to dress like their elders. The empire line was also a striking contrast from what most mothers wore at the time, which contributed to its high approval among teenagers in America.

Until the 1950's, the term "teenagers" was not commonly used, and certainly not a targeted market group. But with a new range of influences, including film, television, rock music, and magazines, teenagers began to be respected and acknowledged in the community. Often nicknamed the "Space Age", the 1950's was an important time in history for science and development as well. So many aspects of life changed during this period, perhaps partially attributed to the recent end of World War II. America had emerged from war with prosperity and a new identity. A new consumer-based society was "forging ahead, helped by such new developments as the credit card system" (Baker, 6). These innovative conditions however produced a similar effect on the fashion industry: while so many things in the lives of Americans were changing, they stayed clear from the radical, intense fashions while preferring the normalcy of standard trends. For once, being normal felt good. Another huge change in the 1950's was the increased ownership of television sets. Popular television programs such as I Love Lucy connected Americans on both sides of the Atlantic, bringing a sense of unity in the country. Segregation was ended in 1954, which brought together black and white students for the first time though racial tensions were still high, and also birthed the existence of civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. Constant fears of communism reaching the states held many Americans tight with fear. More changes brought forth in the 1950's include the discovery of DNA, the launching of the first space satellite, an increase of women in the work field, and of course, rock and roll. All of these economic, social, and political changes in the world affected the American citizens, and therefore the fashion industry.

Regardless of the world's issues, the top fashions that drove the industry were more influenced by those who were idolized by the consumers: celebrities. Some of the most popular celebrities in the 1950's include Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Ricky Nelson, and of course, Elvis Presley. Marilyn Monroe's sexy yet simple style was a widely imitated across America, by women of all shapes and sizes. Elvis Presley was another huge influence in the 1950's; not only was he adored by millions of girls, but he was also an inspiration for men. In a time where men only wore traditional attire, Elvis tore down all barriers which confined men to navy suits and ties. Elvis typically wore clothes that were more popular among the African American population. His wild pegged pants and zoot suits concerned the conservative community of America, who hardly approved of such a "gender bending, race-integrating star" (SOURCE). Elvis' bright and baggy clothes, makeup, and so called obscene dancing all acted as evidence of his single handed destruction of the morals of America's youth. Not all men followed the examples Elvis set however. In fact, more men in this time period dressed conventionally than not.

Most men in the 1950's maintained clothes with casual and modest colors, including dark blue, dark brown, and charcoal. The occasional daring young man would wear pastel pink to stand out; a trend that was just gaining momentum in the 1950's. Cardigan sweaters were popular among athletes, and older men. Additionally popular were fitted vests, plaid flannels, and collared jackets. There was flexibility in men's casual wear, and was a common sight to see shirt tails sticking out. Basic fedora-style hats were also a staple item in the 1950's for men.

Hats were also fashionable accessory for women in the 1950's, for the reason that they were believed to add a final touch of glamour to any woman's outfit. The pillbox hat, first introduced by Balenciaga and later modeled by Jackie Kennedy, became one of the trendiest accessories of the decade. Several glorious hat styles existed in the 1950's. Some hats were covered in flower petals, while others were adorned with swirls of georgette. Gloves were also worn often by women, especially those of elite social status. Some were made of cotton, which was much more affordable than leather or nylon. Though gloves came in many colors and styles, clean gloves whose color was white or cream were the most favored. Fur trimmings and adorned collars were also extremely fashionable. Brooches too, were considered a glamorous accessory.

The 1950's was a decade in which fashion changed dramatically from previous generations. Multiple influences from political debates, to economic issues, to new age celebrities and mass media all influenced the distinct styles and trends which identify the 1950's. Recovering from the casualties of World War II brought a lasting change to America, which was reflected in the fashions of this decade. The American women craved glamorous simplicity in their new lives, and as a new and liberated society evolved, the women of America began to liberate themselves by choosing which fashions they felt depicted them best. Not only were the 1950's important in history, but they also greatly transformed the face of fashion in America.

Isaacs Release "Big Sky" To Country Radio

The Isaacs have become one of Southern Gospel and Bluegrass music's favorite families. I caught up with Lily Isaacs as the first single from their new album, "Big Sky", was being released to radio. The song, also called, "Big Sky", was being released, not to Christian radio, but to Country radio. When I asked Lily about this her answers revealed her desire to reach the lost with the message of Jesus Christ as much as her desire to make great music. "Our message needs to go out to people that don't know Christ. Definitely part of our calling is to encourage Christians to 'keep on truckin on walkin' through the valley', but there is such a large part of our society out there that has no clue how to obtain peace in their heart. I think that we started reaching them with"Heroes".

"Big Sky", the song, does not have a gospel message. It is a song that has "a great melody and is a lot of fun", Lily smiles, "Its like being in wide open spaces where you can breath, where heaven can shine down on you, a great feeling". Although this song doesn't have a Gospel message it serves an important part in spreading the Gospel.

The Isaacs Reaching The Lost With Song
Lily explains, "I think if you grab someone's attention with good music and lyrics they will listen" to the rest of the album. "What more would the Lord ask of us than to go out to the lost and dying world and tell them, 'Hey, there is hope for you through Jesus. There are people out there that care about you'".

"The Bible speaks of the ninety-nine that are in the fold and the one without. If we can win just one person (to Christ) through song by getting them to listen to a song like "Big Sky" and then listening to the rest of the album and hearing songs like, 'Love Is A Cross' then hopefully our goal will be accomplished."

I asked Lily if she was concerned that her long time Christian fans might think that the Isaacs are abandoning their Gospel roots. "I hope that we wouldn't (lose any fans) because I almost feel like this is what God said in His Word when he said for us to go out into the highways and hedges and compel. That does not mean that we have to compromise our message. But it does mean that we need to go out there and pull in the people that don't know (Christ)."

Lily Isaacs' Jewish Heritage
"Its never our intention to go out into the world and be the world, but I believe it's part of God's plan to go out into the world and present the Message", Lily reflected. "Being Jewish, being raised in a Jewish home, I know what it is like to pound someone over the head and say 'you've got to hear me out - I know Jesus' because I was rejected simply because I accepted Jesus into my heart and when a young baby in the Lord, I really tried to explain my life to my people, my family and it backfired on me and I was rejected for a long time. But I learned through the hard knocks of life that you can not go out there and beat someone over the head with the message of Salvation."

"What you need to do is live a life in front of them where they will want what you have and however you do that is up to the individual. But when troubles come and times get hard and they look at you as an example, that's when you can really sow the seeds of kindness. So speaking from experience I think that we would get a lot more people involved in our churches if we would use love, hope and encouragement and say 'Hey, it doesn't matter what you came from, we're here to help you, we're here because we care."

The first song from the new Isaacs album, "Big Sky" may be a future hit on Country radio, but the heart of the Isaacs is still clearly to reach the lost with the Gospel of Christ through their incredible music.

"I love serving the Lord and I know that it is the only thing that's going to matter when it's all said and done. That's the only thing that's going to last forever." Lily concluded. It's this heart that shines through all of the music on the Isaacs' "Big Sky".

Rock and roll was big in the fifties but it was for real defined in the 60s when some of the most rock bands in history emerged. These artists continue to affect the direction and style of music today. They were frequently intoxicated and many died young as a result, but during the 60s, we found more music legends than possibly any other decade.

The sixties bands included every genre of music from hard rock to soul, bubblegum rock to beach music, Motown to rockabilly. This was the generation that included such diverse popular music groups as The Four Seasons and The Rolling Stones; the good boys and the bad boys.

The era of Woodstock and man landing on the moon was a decade of blaring galvanic guitars, wa-wa effects, drum solos and strange lyrics. Those who were only toddlers or babies during this decade likely don't understand the wa-wa follow or the fuzz effect. Guitars screamed, capitalized on feedback and made use of the two aforementioned effects. The Gospel Story - We Do Not Make This "Story" Up

Are Jesus and the gospel story true? And what makes it so? Many people who've never known God and think Jesus is anything from a simple prophet to a myth will think the gospel story's been made up. To them it might be interesting but it's far from 'fact.' Christians believe it is fact. And I know many Christians who're intelligent and not easily fooled, which leads me to think there's more to it than merely story.

The Bible addresses this quandary in many different ways. I thought I'd focus on part of Peter's account.

Can you imagine being Peter witnessing the Mount of Transfiguration event as portrayed in Synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke? He saw Jesus both in the presence of, and heralded by, the chief prophet, Elijah, and the chief law-giver, Moses, as they proclaimed--with God the Father overseeing and giving his own testimony to the event--Jesus' anointing in fulfilling the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 5:17; 7:12) as Israel's coveted, yet later rejected, Messiah.

And Peter proclaims this in his second letter, crucially propounding the God-inspiration of both the event and the prophesy that foretold Jesus' coming, and importantly reinforcing his apostolic authority as one of only three eye-witnesses to the event beyond question:

"We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, 'This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.'[1] We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain" -2 Peter 1:16-18 (NIV).

And we too are witnesses of his glory through the experience in our own lives. Jesus, by his will and ours (i.e. our belief), broke in and revealed his fullness to us, his glory never-ending. We truly could not appreciate it fully and still can't. This is not an experience we can explain nor can others relate with, until the personal revelation takes place for the very first time. Then we get it.

It's at this point that "the story" that many unbelieving people think is fictitious becomes a fervent and pulsing reality for us. Like Jesus was, we too have been transfigured!-and that-spiritually, mentally, emotionally. Suddenly we're alive to the motioning of the Spirit; our blindness has receded. We begin to see beyond this life and into eternity.

How could we not share this good news? This story of truth is bound to the reality of our changed lives of compassion, empathy, good humour and good cheer. We are not blown by the prevailing winds; we're directed on the course of truth and grace. We finally begin living the way we always wanted to live.

The "story" makes sense only when our doubts evaporate enough to be open to belief; this is when Jesus-the real Person via the Holy Spirit-is able, finally, to make a home within me or you.

We are destined for our very own Mount of Transfiguration (and many of them) if our hearts and minds are open to receive the Presence of God in Jesus. We have a God of personal transfiguration and transformation in our midst.

In him, for ourselves, we can do the openly impossible and immeasurable. What was once beyond us now becomes, of itself, transfigured and transformed. Many difficult things lay ahead of us, yet with his help, our relative mastery over these proves his existence and Presence with us.

And the things we cannot change, which served only to frustrate us; these are dealt with such that our hearts find it accepting to live and let live. Peace abounds in him who saves us.

The word free seems to take on another meaning in the church. Nothing stands out more, to a person in need, than to see a church marquee with the word "FREE". If you want to draw a crowd and fill the pews, use this word on your marquee. Lets take a look at the word and its meanings:

Not controlled by obligation or the will of another. Not subject to external restraint. Costing nothing; gratuitous: a free meal. Unobstructed; clear: a free lane. Given, made, or done of one's own accord; voluntary or spontaneous. Unconstrained; unconfined: free expansion.

Gospel

The preceding list seems to accurately define the word free. We've become so careless with words, especially when it comes to getting quick results in the church. As I recall, the Gospel message is to all and for all whom would hear it and believe it; there is no obligation to listen to it, no obligation to respond to it, only consequences for the rejection of it.

Often, the good intentions of the church, to reach the lost by any means, turns out to be a desperate attempt to build numbers and so little to do with "teaching all nations. Where do we draw the line in the use of gimmicks? Since when do we implement gimmicks and attached conditions (calling it ministry) on what we do for others? For instance; I received a post card from the local church that read the following:

"FREE Thanksgiving Hen & Grocery Sack of Food to fix your Thanksgiving Dinner"

This event requires those receiving this "Free Grocery Sack" to register for the event and "Plan to stay for a worship service". You can miss things when you dint read the fine print. While the phrase "salvation is free" rings true, but it did cost Jesus His life. No organization, should attach a condition on the community service they provide, in the name of Jesus Christ. I'm sure when members of the Christian community, rushed to Haiti to aid the people, there were no conditions to receive the help.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ should be given freely to any and all who will listen (without a hook of gimmick) and believe on Him. If you happen to be feeding the hungry, then well done. The Gospel of Jesus Christ should come without cost to them who have nothing. Their should be no obligation or constraint of any kind to the hearer, to receive this Life Changing message, in short No Strings Attached.

'The kingdom of heaven is near.' 8. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. (Matt 10:7)

We've seen the rise of Teen pop, who've been given a boost by the Disney Channel, as well as Pop Punk like Fall Out Boy and pop rock like Pink. John's Gospel Portrait of Jesus Christ

In the Gospel of John, we will not find an account of the birth or temptation of Jesus. We will not read of His baptism or learn of His Last Supper with His disciples. We will not encounter Him as He struggles in Gethsemane or ascends in heaven. John's Gospel contains no word of the healing of the demon possessed and perhaps most stunning and peculiar of all, it gives none of the parable stories Jesus told, which are so precious to the Synoptic Gospels. Yet, if John omits much of what the Synoptic Gospels include, He tells us much of what the other three omits.

John alone tells us of the marriage feast at Cana of Galilee and the miracle Jesus performed there. John alone shares with us the coming of Nicodemus to Jesus at the midnight hour. John alone records Jesus' meeting with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's Well. John alone tells us of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. John alone relates the way Jesus washed His disciples' feet.

Gospel

It is only in the Gospel of John that some of the disciples come truly alive. It is only in the Gospel of John that Thomas speaks; we get a glimpse of Phillip's character, Andrew becomes a real personality and we learn of the protest of Judas at Bethany. John alone tells us of Jesus' teachings about the Holy Spirit, the Comforter and the Guide.

Another distinguishing mark of this Gospel is all the extra little details John adds, which read like the memories of one who was an eyewitness. For example, we read that the loaves, which the boy brought to Jesus, were barley loaves. When Jesus came to the disciples as they crossed the lake in the storm, they had rowed, according to John, between three and four miles. John knows the exact weight of the myrrh and aloes used to anoint the dead body of Jesus. John brings so much detail to his Gospel, details that are missing in the Synoptic Gospels.

Another important detail that John includes in his writings is the way in which he portrays Jesus Christ. He does not describe Jesus' birth or the events surrounding it. Rather, he discusses two critical particulars: (1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.

Christ is the Word speaking from God to us and to God from us. John the Baptist was the voice, but Christ is the Word and being the Word, He is the truth, the Amen, the Faithful Witness of the mind of God.

Jesus identified Himself as being the Light of world. John the Baptist came witnessing to the Light of the world. He came to enlighten the world that the long awaited Messiah had arrived. The Son of the Highest was here in this lower world. He left a world of glory to come into this dismal, melancholy world. He undertook to reconcile the world to God and was therefore, in the world to settle that affair; to satisfy God's justice for the world.

This is the joy of Christmas. It has little to do with reindeer, and Santa Claus and blueberry pie. It has little to do with the time of year in which it is celebrated. It has everything to do with the fact that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. In the fullness of time, Christ came appearing in the likeness of sinful flesh and was made sin for us.

John alone presents this concept of Jesus to us. The idea that the Logos, the eternal Word (reason) came in the flesh is almost too much for the human mind to grasp. He took upon Himself the nature of man and put Himself into the place and condition of man and dwelt among us; us pathetic creatures, us that He had absolutely no need for, us that He received nothing from except hostility and resentment, us that were corrupted and mean and revolted against God. Even so, He came and dwelt among us.

His living among us was far worse to Him than David's living in Mesech, or Ezekiel's residing among scorpions or the Church of Pergamum dwelling where Satan's seat is.

When we gaze upon heaven, how mean and contemptible does our flesh appear and this world in which we must presently live. How hard it is for the contemplative mind to be reconciled to it.

But John's Gospel teaches us about the Logos; the eternal Word of God was made flesh and lived in this world as we do. He has put honor upon both our bodies and our world. Christ lived in this lower realm, with all its faults and failures until He was able to say, "It is finished."

We thank God for the Gospel according to John and all the special details that cast light on our understanding of Him.

I just finished watching a movie called "Elvis" made in 1979 starring Kurt Russell. And it just hit me that after all these years,this is probably still the BEST offering so far about Elvis's life. Imagine, no big Hollywood Studio has done anything that beats it.

I've been following the career of this Kid from Tupelo since I was 10 years old. Some people might ask,"why would anyone still be so fanatic or loyal to a celebrity after all these years?" Well,I don't think anyone really knows "why" it just seemed to happen one day at a time.

Gospel Music Channel

For me, I don't think a day goes by that I don't think of Elvis. I remember as a kid, growing sideburns and being kidded by the older kids. In 1964 in high school many of the kids said Elvis was over and the Beatles were "In". But there still were those like me that thought otherwise.

Than in 1970 my wife and I with two friends saw him in person at the Miami Beach Convention Center. I remember the feeling of anticipation sitting in my seat waiting for the show to begin. And that day in August of 1977 when I got a phone call from home asking me if I heard the news.

In 1995 my son graduated from a Naval Training School located just outside of Memphis, so we just had to visit Graceland. It was a little surreal walking through the house knowing Elvis had once lived there. When we came to the grave site, it was impossible to stop the tears from flowing.

Here's a brief rundown of some of the Movies and Songs associated with the KING... Elvis Movies number 33, first in 1956 with "Love Me Tender" and last with "Change of Habit" in 1969. Plus two Documentaries,"Elvis,That's The Way It Is" in 1970 and "Elvis On Tour" in 1972.

Elvis Songs number about 800 of recorded and/or performed songs beginning with "That's All Right" in 1954. His last studio album was "Moody Blue" recorded between February 1976 and April 1977.

It is estimated that Elvis has sold enough records to circle the Earth three times over. Although it is still a question of verification,it is believed "Elvis Worldwide Record Sales" have reached "One Billion Records".

No one knows why people feel so strongly about Elvis, we just know we do and always will.

The habitancy of Venezuela boast of a history and culture that is rich in folk music. The national musical instrument of Venezuela is the "cuatro." Ilanero is a typical Venezuelan music. It originated in the plains or 'ilanos' of the country and was made favorite by many musical artists, including Juan Vicente Torrealba and Ignacio Figueredo. However, most of its favorite music has been eclipsed by the music of its neighboring countries, especially Brazil, Trinidad, and Colombia. Merengue, salsa, and other imported styles are also quite favorite in the country.

Simón Díaz and Reynaldo Armas are favorite llanera folk singers from Venezuela. However, purists and the younger generation of Venezuelans are not very appreciative of this music. Neo-folklore is a form of music that takes original music and organizes it in an electronic style, to be played on electronic instruments.

Gaita is the name of another favorite music of this country. It has its origin in the el Zulia region. It is played much fervor during the Christmas season and is even carefully a national representation of the festivity.

There are some fusion artist groups such as Un Solo Pueblo, Huracán del Fuego, and Grupo Madera, who have combined Latin American music such as jazz, rumba, and salsa. Aldemaro Romero is a customary creative Venezuelan composer of Caribbean jazz, Venezuelan waltzes, and other symphonic works. Vicente Emilio Sojo is noted in the country and internationally for his contributions to Venezuelan musicology and music education.

Venezuelan calypso music, which has its own characteristic rhythms and lyrical style, has its roots in Trinidad. Argentinean rock groups have had a strong work on on Venezuelan rock. Cuban-American salsa music is also another range of imported music that has achieved popularity. Rock music is also very popular. some groups such as Desorden Público, Caramelos de Cianuro, and Los Amigos Invisibles have made their nearnessy felt on the scene.

There are certain times when I just feel a depth of loneliness that's hard to describe; I know we all feel this way sometimes. When I miss family members, for instance, or I get some bad news or some indifferent feedback; the world is awfully estranging at these times. Yet, that's the world!

James is very pragmatic in his wisdom gospel. He contends it is simple cause and effect, this faith-deal. Resist the evil one and firmly cling to God--that's his advice.

When I have those horribly lonely times of heart, I do quickly run to God in my spirit. And he is so refreshing. Cleansing tears envelope my eyes, ears and cheeks as I pour my heart out to him who knows me so well.

There is a song that Michael W. Smith sings on a CD I own. It's called, Draw Me Close, by Kelly Carpenter. The lyrics and music speak so much of that personal time with God when we'll cry out to him.

In life there's always choice--we cannot get away with choosing the middle ground. A choice not for God is a choice for the world and enmity with God; however, a choice for God is enmity (when it counts) with the world, and the prince of this world.

When we're lonely, sad or depressed, equally we have the above choice. Take the lukewarm approach with God i.e. the world's way (and that of the enemy's) and we stand to get little or no spiritual or emotional relief. On the other hand, where we draw close to God he is sure to draw close to us. Peace is available as a result.

I have found this is not only a habit we get into--the choice, I mean--but it also necessarily springs from desire. We must cultivate that inner desire to want him. This desire is to be second to none. Do this and you'll soon see why. God is amazingly faithful. He gently but most assuredly affirms us, very personally.

When I'm feeling low, and as I write I do feel that way, I'm comforted in my knowledge that God is with me and if I wanted to cry out to him, he's there. Indeed, I feel his loving reassurance now. It's like nothing else.

We can't help feel lonely and helpless sometimes. That is a great reason to draw close to God; only he can truly help us with our spiritual ills--the soul-sickness everyone gets.

This Jesus-balm is ever-healing and ever-renewing.

Did you ever consider that those televangelists could use a little competition? If there is a crisis anywhere what do they do? If you are in need financially what do they do? If you need a miracle or a healing or a job what do they do? They tell you to send them your best offering or to tithe your money to them or else something bad will happen to you. Yea right, not on your best day pal! They have the fancy clothes and houses and cars and private jets and bling-bling and what do you have?

You have bills that don't quit showing up. You have bill collectors that want to be your new best friends. Your children need clothes. You need food on the table. You need your mounting debts paid off. The house is broken and you need money to fix it. You need a new car. You have doctor bills and hospital bills. You owe everybody and their brother and the fancy man and woman on TV is telling you that if you send them your last dollar that all your problems will just vanish away.

I did what they told me to do and I sent them my money. Do you know what happened? My bills got bigger. My car developed a new problem. My marriage suffered. No food on my table. My children were going without and I lost my job. So much for empty promises from televangelists don't you think?

Then I read my bible and I found out a few things. The bible says in 1 Corinthians 9:14 that the Lord has ordained that those who preach the gospel should live (get their living) from the gospel. I also read that it is impossible for God to lie. I also read that when Jesus sent out his disciples to preach that when they returned they reported that they had lacked absolutely nothing. Then I read that when Philip who was a deacon in the Jerusalem church went out to preach that he went from city to city. Who supported him? I then read that there were women who even supported Jesus out of their own financial means.

Why didn't the televangelists tell me these things? Do they want to keep all the money for themselves? Do you know that one of the roles a true evangelist has is to teach others to preach the gospel as well as to do it himself? Did you know that when you preach the gospel you are actually doing the work of the Kingdom of God by advancing and expanding the Kingdom of Heaven? Did you know that God is not a cheapskate and that he has promised that you can get your living from preaching the gospel? Yes, it is true.

How did Jesus go from being a carpenter's son to preaching the gospel? How did he support himself not to mention 12 disciples and their families? And don't forget how many basketfuls of leftovers the disciples picked up after Jesus fed the 5,000. I realize that you are thinking that it was because he is Jesus and it is irrelevant in my case. Hold on my friend. There are plenty of scriptures in the New Testament where Paul wrote about receiving an income from preaching and that those who preach had a right to it.

I am not going to argue theology or man's tradition with those who want to argue. Please go find someone else to argue with about such things. I am here to help those who need help financially. If you are not a Christian then become one. Call upon the name of Jesus Christ and get yourself saved. Then use the following material and start preaching and preaching and preaching. Preach to everyone that is still breathing. Preach as much as possible and do not stop. And before we get into the "how to" I want to remind you that you probably will not be paid like you get paid with a weekly paycheck from a job. Nonetheless you will find that God will provide for you and he will get you out of your financial mess.

In addition, stop those bad financial habits that might have got you into this financial mess you are in. Okay here we go. Are you ready?

The first thing you need to do is to get into a conversation with someone.

1. Approach them with a smile and say, "Hi." Anyone who smiles back and says, "Hi" is revealing that they are approachable.

2. Next I bring up anything from the weather to anything else that is relevant for a few minutes of small talk. I am looking for at least 10 to 15 minutes to share the gospel. I can usually get a feel at this point.

3. I will then ask them a general question of what their opinion is of what they think some of the major problems people are facing today.

4. Once I listen to them talk a little I will proceed to ask them if they have any kind of spiritual belief.

5. They will tell me anything at his juncture so then I will follow up with a question regarding who they think Jesus Christ is.

6. And immediately I will follow up with a question of if they think there is a heaven or a hell.

7. That opens the conversation to find out if they know where they will go when they die, to heaven or to hell, or if they believe in something else. Now if they say heaven I generally inquire as to why they think God would let them into heaven.

8. I then ask them if what they believe was not true would they want to know about it. If they say they want to know I proceed. If they do not I graciously wish them a good day and move on to the next person I find with whom to share the Gospel of Christ.

9. Now as I move into sharing actual scripture with them I make sure that they read the scripture I share with them as opposed to me reading or quoting it. I will do the latter if I perceive that they might not want to read the scripture out loud.

10. There are several scripture sequences that you can use, but these work nicely:

o Tell them God loves them - John 3:16

o Tell them, but man is sinful and separated from God - Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23a

o Tell them that Jesus Christ is the only solution for man's sin - Romans 5:8 and Romans 6:23b

o We must receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior before we can be saved - Romans 10:9,10, and 13

After they have heard the scriptures I will ask them the following questions:

1. Are you a sinner?

2. Do you want forgiveness of your sins?

3. Do you believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for you and rose again?

4. Are you willing to surrender your life to Jesus Christ?

5. Are you ready to invite Jesus Christ into your life and into your heart?

I then shut up at this point and do not say anything. I let them answer first.

If they say no then I simply ask, "Why."

If they say yes then I lead them in the following prayer:

"Heavenly Father I have sinned against you. I want forgiveness for all my sins. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and that God raised him up from the dead for my justification. Father, I give you my life to do with as you wish. I want Jesus to come into my life and into my heart. I take Jesus as my Savior and confess Jesus as my Lord. This I ask in the name of Jesus. Amen."

I will then tell them I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ because when you believe, it becomes the power of God for your salvation. So turn away from sin and confess Jesus as Lord. Believe God raised Christ and receive baptism into life.

I finally ask for their contact information so that I may follow up with them over the next day or so. I also work to get them into a good bible believing church as soon as possible. This is usually the next time the local church doors will be open to have a service.

There is a song that makes me feel small, but in a very good way. It commences gently but assertively with a trickling piano then booms at the end in an eerily cool and comforting sort of way. The crescendo of the third verse is what brings goose pimples to the skin as I'm taken to the inner sanctum of God's court; his Presence. In this way it has 'oaks' of the 23rd Psalm. It is the safety of the Shepherd whom fills us with the feeling 'we shall not want.'

At his 92nd birthday celebration a son fulfils his elderly father's wish -- the reading of the 23rd Psalm. It's an amazing cogent dirge of faithful assurance, read slowly and strongly; so much like the song...

Gospel

Of course the song I'm referring to is the 1970 classic, Bridge Over Troubled Water by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Many an artist (including more than one Christian artist) has recorded their own rendition of this universal favourite that lived atop the billboard top 100 for a couple of months. It was Simon and Garfunkel's swansong.

The song is colossal. There is an eternal shrill to it. It builds upon the images of the overwhelmed. Whether we're 'feeling small,' 'friends can't be found,' or we're simply 'down and out' he is a bridge over that troubled water -- he's on our side. Who is this person? Have you 'met' him yet? He comforts and dries the tears. He'll surround us with safety and answers when 'pain is all around.'

The first and second verses are melodies for the melancholy -- an elixir for desperates. Then the divine ballad shifts up in gear and suddenly lifts us... first musically, then spiritually. The theme of loneliness and sorrow ends suddenly and a new era of victorious hope emerges; again the overtones of the 23rd Psalm.

'Silver girl's time has come.' She is about to live her dream; there is a sure pillion of hope as he shows her how she's to shine. He will 'ease her mind.'

Imagine in your pain and desolation, the bridge that carries you safely over the dark and treacherous torrent below, and through that dark period, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, psychologically.

Bridge Over Troubled Water is a wonderfully inspirational yet expansive song for the downcast complete with music and feeling of epic proportions. It's a creative touch of God for humankind; a miracle of creation and modern day art. In the spiritual sense, it's a 'saving' work that must have saved thousands upon thousands of lives. Praise God.

Should Christians Be Baptised Into The Lord Jesus Christ's Name Alone? Part 3 Pentecostal Oneness

It's truly amazing what one finds when we set out to study a specific aspect of The Truth and none more so than the Truth that we should all be baptised into the Lord Jesus Christ's name alone and not into the names of the trinity. I say this, because in my searches to find a fellowship that does baptise into The Lord's name alone I came across the above mentioned denomination (Demon-ination) known fully as the Apostolic Pentecostal Oneness denomination. This denomination does baptise into the Lord Jesus Christ's name alone, but unfortunately that's about all they get right!

So here we have a group with all the usual hall marks of a division and just another man made schism or daughter of the Whore in Rome as are all denominations. This includes, too, denominations that cannot even see that they are denominations, like the Baptist Union which inhabits some kind of surreal netherworld of denial, but enough of them and if you want to know more about their deluded condition please read my latest series of articles on "Mr Night - The Baptist Minister."

So, what about this group of people who are members of the Apostolic Pentecostal Oneness organisation? I have heard of Pentecostals before and I have attended their Sunday morning services as well in my early searches for the real Church of God having left the phoney Worldwide Church of God. On the whole I found this Pentecostal fellowship to be a very exuberant and vociferous fellowship with lots of hand waving and gospel type music which unfortunately included much vain repetition but apart from that they were a very friendly group of people and made me and my wife very welcome. Needless to say there were the usual mainstream Christian errors coming from the pulpit so we could not stay.

Now this Pentecostal fellowship was not the same as the fellowships that make up the Apostolic Pentecostal Oneness denomination, these people are very different and make up yet another division and they believe in monotheism, but this is a wacky form of monotheism. The Father God is one and so is The Lord Jesus Christ one and the Holy Spirit is one and, according to Pentecostal Oneness people they exist in their individual guises, alone, at any one time. In other words they are limited to dealing with us only as individuals on a 'one at a time' basis. So what they are saying is this: there is one God who can be Himself, then He does a quick change of robes and He's now the Lord Jesus Christ, and then another quick change of robes and He's now the Holy Spirit. They are never three beings together as per the trinity and they are never two beings as per the real Godhead, but only one being who takes on one of three individual roles and only one at any given time. This means that when this Pentecostal Oneness monogod is performing as The Father, He is alone. Whilst He is busy, the Son and the Holy Spirit are like lifeless ventriloquist's dummies folded in a suit case awaiting enlivenment when The Father God role is not required. He then gets put into the suit case and the Jesus dummy comes out and is made active and alive. Can you believe this stuff? When I read it for the first time I had to admit it was more unbelievable than the trinity myth and even more hilarious which as you can now see, it is!! Who thinks this stuff up and how?

Well we know how don't we? They're much like that cult that says The Lord Jesus Christ is a created being. (Please read my article "Was, and is, the Lord Jesus Christ God?") It's a shame really because both these groups know that the trinity doctrine is gobbledegook and they both endeavour to put something else in its place. The trouble is the things they do put in place of the trinity are just as erroneous, mythical and blasphemous as the trinity.

From the Wikipedia: The Christian Monotheist Oneness doctrine rejects all concepts of a duality, trinity, pantheon, or other doctrines they see as representing multiple personalities of God.

As we can see they reject the plurality of the Godhead and yet Holy Scripture is very unambiguous about this Truth. For example, who was The Lord Jesus Christ praying to when He walked this earth? The Lord ascended to heaven to be with The Father and sit at His right hand. What part of Father and Son are these people missing? Only The Father knows the exact time of The Son's return to this earth. The Lord Jesus Christ does not know this information.

Matt 24:35-36 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

How could this be if they are one and same person? We need to understand they are two separate personages or beings not one. They are not one, they are not three in one and they are not two in one. They are two at one with each other or totally like minded but they are not one being. Should Christians Be Baptised Into The Lord Jesus Christ's Name Alone? Part 3 Pentecostal Oneness

The Business (and Sometimes Art) of Music Video Treatment Writing

INTRODUCTION

I receive several e-mails each week from people asking me how to break into the business of music video treatment writing. As I have written over four hundred treatments for various record labels, artists and directors, I have some insight into this area. There are several elements to consider when writing a music video treatment and I will try to outline them here.

Music Channel

Before you attempt to write a single word, it helps to understand a little bit about the "biz." The music video industry has undergone major changes in recent years. Many record labels have gone out of business or consolidated. There are far fewer "big budget" videos being produced, yet with broadband Internet access, there are far more avenues of distribution. *

There are three main players: The Record Labels, The Production Companies and The Directors. The record labels represent the recording artists. The Production Companies represent directors. There are also directors who are not affiliated with any particular production company. They often solicit work on their own, or hire an independent representative to work for them.

When a record label wants to make a music video for one of its artists, it approaches several production companies and directors who they think would be appropriate and solicit bids. They will say, for example, "We want a music video for Britney Spear's upcoming single, 'I Wish I Had Talent,' and we have a budget of 750,000 dollars."

The production company will scramble to assemble a bid, consisting of a treatment and a budget, which they will then rush to the label as quickly as possible. Generally, it is assumed that the proposed director will write the treatment himself or herself, but this is often not the case. A lot of directors, including some of the most noted in the business, do not like writing treatments. Often it is because they are asked to bid on so many video jobs that the amount of writing - on spec - gets to be overwhelming. Sometimes it is because they don't have a good solid idea. Most often it is because they are not good writers. They may be masters of visualization, they may know how to place a camera and work with the talent to get a dynamite performance, but this doesn't necessarily mean they know how to translate their concepts to the written word. In other cases, the director may be extremely proficient with the written word, but still want to collaborate with an outside writer to come up with the best treatment possible. So they will hire, usually through the auspices of the production company that represents them, someone to write the treatment. This could be anyone from the secretary at the production office, to the producer of the video. Often, however, it is a freelance writer.

There are three main components to consider when writing a music video treatment: SELLING, CONTENT and BUDGET. The one that beginning writers seem most concerned with is the content; that is, all the visual aspects that will be photographed and (hopefully) translated to the screen. Be advised, the other two components are equally important. If one does not take SELLING and BUDGET into consideration, the content will be woefully irrelevant.

SELLING

Since the treatment is written as part of the initial bid to convince the record label to award the job to the production company and/or its director, it must be an effective SELLING TOOL. In addition to the great content and visuals you will include in the treatment, you must be cognizant of what it is the label and the artist are looking for, and - for lack of a better word - regurgitate it back to them. The artists are concerned with how they will be presented. The label is concerned with selling albums. So in the text you must convince both that these needs will be met. If you are writing for a rap artist who has mentioned that he wants to drive a current model Lincoln Navigator, make sure that you refer to this exact vehicle in the text of the treatment. Regardless of whether you think it's a terrible idea, or whether or not the vehicle makes it into the finished video, your main concern at this point is to get the job. Don't be obstinate. If the label says they want to stay away from using a lot of extras, do not set your video at a concert with hundreds of screaming fans.
Get it? Give them what they want, keeping it within the context of the other two components: Content and Budget.

CONTENT

Treatments are generally written in the present tense, with the writer describing all the visuals that will be in the proposed music video and tying them into the various verses of the song.

Being as descriptive as possible is crucial. Often you may think you have the coolest imagery for the video, but if the reader does not understand what ideas and images you are conveying, or does not get the same mental images as the writer, it will all be lost. Find the right adjective. Normally, writers do not want to be redundant, but in a music video, it is sometimes important to "hit the reader over the head." Imagine your audience will be composed of everyone from a Nobel laureate to a second grader with a learning disability. Is the performance set inside a "blue room"? Or is it a COBALT BLUE ROOM, with a low fog that permeates every corner. Description, description, description.

Performance vs. "B Roll". When you see the artist playing an instrument and/or singing to the track, this is called "PERFORMANCE." Everything else that takes place in the video is referred to as "B-ROLL."

Generally, you want to describe three or four performance set-ups, that will be intertwined with your B-Roll visuals. Describe how the artist will come across in his or her performance. Strong? Powerful? Seductive? Flirtatious? Sexy? It helps to know a little about how the artists perceive themselves. You can usually find this out by visiting their official websites and reading their bios.

B-Roll could be narrative or interpretative. That is, it could tell a linear story, with a beginning, middle and end, or it could just be imagery that you feel works well within the context of the song.

As with any form of writing, the more you do it, the better you will get. Keep writing music videos, whether you are getting paid for it or not. Watch MTV. Study your favorite videos and then write what you imagine the treatment must have looked like. Study other treatments that have been written, and then come up with your own style. While there are no hard and fast rules about format, it is important that a treatment communicate its ideas in a clear, concise and creative manner.

BUDGET

Usually, the writer will have an idea of the budget range the label or artist wishes to spend. A treatment written for a five-hundred thousand dollar video will look very different from one for a five thousand dollar video. If you have any production experience, this will be a little easier to determine, but if you are strictly a writer, then you must use your common sense. In the half-million dollar video, it is perfectly okay to include a few of these effects in your treatment. In a budget of under fifty-thousand, it is best to avoid them. Smaller effects that can be created using lighting and smoke, etc., are relatively inexpensive and can be accomplished on even the most modest of budgets.

The lower the budget, the fewer the extras, locations and effects you should incorporate into the treatment.

GETTING YOUR FIRST JOB

Now that you have a basic understanding of the process of writing music video treatments, you are probably wondering where to start. How do you get your first job? First should have two or three samples of your work. Find a few new songs that you really like and write your own treatments for them. First, Jesus came to set us free because God loves us and wants the best for our lives. In the first chapter of the Bible, the author tells us that both male and female were created in the image of God. Accordingly, they pour out their lives, spending countless hours, days, and years attempting to amass their empire which will be given to another upon death. God created the world with everything necessary to satisfy both your simplest and most profound needs. Jesus came to set you free from your bondage to inordinate appetites for physical satisfaction, material wealth, and social status.

Third, Jesus came to set us free that we might eternal life with him. God created you to live in eternal fellowship with him both in this life and on into eternity. Unfortunately, our slavery to self-satisfaction has caused us to fall short of God's best and sin against him. God cannot dwell with sinful people, so a remedy had to be designed. Our sin should have resulted in our eternal death but Jesus came to pay the penalty that we might be able to dwell with God and be free forever. Free from our appetites and free from the penalty of eternal death. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the gospel of freedom; that is the good news that we do not need to be slaves to our basic needs but can walk with peace and joy and live in continual fellowship with God.

Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an evil spirit came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.

"First let the children eat all they want," he told her, "for it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."

Gospel

"Yes, Lord," she replied, "but even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs."

Then he told her, "For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter."

She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone. Mark 7:24-30.

The response of Jesus to the Gentile woman may at first glance appear harsh and unjustifiable. His reference to the chosen race (children) as contrasted with the Gentiles (dogs) seems to imply that Jesus was unwilling or hesitant to extend His ministry to the Gentiles. Matthew's account seems to modify it somewhat. In any case, the woman was rewarded for her perceptive response which insisted that the "dogs" share in the "children's" food, even if it be crumbs. This story no doubt, had great significance for Mark's Gentile readers because it showed that Jesus extended help to a Gentile woman who sought His assistance. But, let's get back to the difficulty many consider cruel and unkind on the part of Jesus.

I have researched this issue rather thoroughly and have found that the reasons Stein provided for not interpreting this text as brutal on Jesus' part are valid and supported by numerous respectable scholars.

One of the strongest reasons Stein gives is related to Jesus' use of the word "dogs." He points out the difference between the Greek term "kunaria" meaning puppy or pet dog, which Jesus used, and "kunes" meaning wild dogs. In his thoughts, this passage is best explained "as a match of wits in which Jesus seeks to lead the Syrophoenician woman to a more persistent and deeper faith."

Curtis Beach doubts that any part of the conversation can be attributed to Jesus. To him, the text seems to reflect a controversy that existed in the early Church. He contends that the text may have arisen in two stages. The first stage (verses 25-27) may be the original portion which arose in the Jewish section of the Church and composed to show Jesus' preference to not have dealings with the Gentiles. The second stage (verses 28-30) Beach suggests, was added by Gentile Christians to show that Jesus was pleased by the Gentile woman's attitude. He goes on to point out that Mark uses this composite to demonstrate Jesus' power which exceeded those he had previously reported. Beach also understands verse 24 as Mark's addition since it expresses Mark's characteristic ideas surrounding Jesus' fame and His desire to keep His secret.

Barclay's exegesis mirror's Stein's. He points to Jesus' use of the diminutive word for "dog," apparent tone of voice and like. He adds that symbolically, the Syrophoenician woman "stands for the Gentile world which so eagerly seized on the bread of heaven which the Jews rejected and threw away."

The sources agree that Jesus' words to the Syrophoenician woman was not harsh. Beach even goes so far as to reject the idea that Jesus spoke them at all. They raise some valid points that we all should explore in our personal Bible study. Understanding the different connotations associated with "dog" in Greek, which Stein elaborated on, reflects new light on the text as does the Greek word "elegen" which revealed the fact that a dialogue had been in progress prior to where Mark picks it up.

Knowledge of Greek or having available Greek translation resources at our disposal will offer all Bible students a definite exegetical advantage.

Born Andraé Edward Crouch on July 1st, 1942 in Los Angeles, the son of Benjamin Jerome and Catherine Dorothea Crouch, Andrae is today one of the most highly respected figures within modern contemporary gospel music and contemporary Christian music. Cousin of jazz critic Stanley Crouch, Andrae is a multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer, musical arranger and recording artist, all rolled into one creative genius.

At an early age, Crouch attended his parents' church, where he became exposed to gospel music, forming a musical trio early on with twin sister Sandra and his older brother Benjamin. Andre and his family moved to the surburb of Pacoima in the San Fernando Valley when he was still attending junior high school. Music soon became a lifetime outlet for the young Crouch, enabling him to overcome his early shyness and slight stammering impediment. In 1956 at the age of fourteen, Crouch began to compose songs, a habit he has maintained passionately on a daily basis up to today.

Gospel

In 1960, while still at high school, Crouch formed his first group, the Church of God in Christ Singers (COGICS). The band included vocalist Billy Preston who later performed as organist with the famous English pop band The Beatles. By the mid sixties, Crouch had formed his second band, the Disciples with whom he released numerous popular albums on the gospel Light label platform.

Crouch played a leading role in the development of the Jesus Movement in the West coast of the United States during the late sixties to early seventies; and his contribution to the Jesus Movement inspired Elvis Presley and Paul Simon to record a number of his religious songs.

For two decades, Crouch and the Disciples went from strength to strength, performing worldwide in seventy countries. Crouch's reputation grew as he orchestrated a musical revolution, infusing traditional gospel with other musical forms outside of gospel, including R&B and mainstream pop. This and Crouch's soft vocal style drew a multi-ethnic mainstream secular audience beyond the confines of traditional gospel music. Crouch and the Disciples went on to perform to a rapturous audience at New York's famous cultural epitome, the Carnegie Hall and in 1980 the group appeared in NBC television's flagship program: Saturday Night Live comedy show, gaining further mainstream acceptance of his musical style.

Crouch and the Disciples went on to stamp their mark indelibly on the industry, collecting numerous Grammy and Dove musical awards throughout the late seventies and early eighties.

However, Crouch's musical style soon began to draw criticism from staunch traditionalists within gospel music who argued the singer / composer's music was undervaluing the spiritual essence behind traditional gospel music. But these criticisms could not dampen the musical legacy Crouch had already established with traditional gospel and mainstream audiences and he gained further success in 1984 with his Grammy award winning hit album: No Time to Lose.

Crouch's career took an unexpected turn when in a short space of time between 1993 and 1994, he lost both his beloved parents and his elder brother Benjamin. Following his father's death, Andre took the mantle as head of his father's church, Christ Memorial Church of God in Christ in Pacoima, which he ministers with his twin sister, Sandra.

Crouch managed to find time to run his church and continue with his musical career, achieving further success with the release in 1994 of his Grammy award winning work Mercy. Crouch continues to record and compose to the present day. Some of his more recent works include his 2004 album He's Everywhere, released in 2004 and before that, Legends of the Gospel(2002) and Kings of Gospel(2003).

My sister told me about this CD and I'm glad she did. It's a great CD on which all of the songs are done very well both technically and musically.

Alan Jackson does a great job singing the old time favorites like Blessed Assurance, How Great Thou Art, The Old Rugged Cross, and Jackson's voice is an absolutely perfect fit to these timeless hymns. You can almost picture him standing in the church pew with his family singing the songs.

This is a "feel good" album done in the deep rich voice of Alan Jackson accompanied by his wife and two daughters and is by far one of Jackson's best offerings.

This CD is simply a wonderful collection of songs for anyone who enjoys Alan Jackson, or Spiritual Hymns in general. Get it. You won't be disappointed.

While this entire album is outstanding some of my favorites are track 2, Softly And Tenderly, track 4 When We All Get To Heaven, and track 7, Are You Washed In The Blood?

My SmoothLee Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1, Blessed Assurance which he sings as though it were written for his voice. Perfect.
